Introduction

Have you ever wished there was a clean version of a song that you could use for class? Or maybe you like the beat of a song but aren’t feeling the words as much? This free plugin for Audacity is the answer we’ve all been waiting for!

With AI making more and more advancements every day, it's becoming easier for lay individuals to accomplish in a few minutes what would have taken an expert much longer just a few years ago. Say what will you will about AI, but it's definitely made it easier for me to create content and edit music, especially with Audacity's AI plugin that I'll be showing you today! This plugin easily separates the vocals from the instruments in a song, making it easy to take out lyrics or create an instrumental version of the song for a project.

Before we start please keep in mind that right now the plugin is only available for Windows and Linux, if it becomes available for Mac users I'll create a separate post about that!

Getting to Know Audacity

For those who are new to Audacity, it's a free, open-source music editing program available for both Windows and Mac. Audacity is a robust platform, perfect for editing audio files, creating mixes, and more. If you're unfamiliar with how to use Audacity, check out my tutorial where I walk you through editing a dance mix!

Installation Guide

  1. Download the Plugin: Follow this link to download the plugin.

  2. Installation Steps:

  • Scroll down to the assets section and click on the first item to download the plugin.

  • Double-click the downloaded file and proceed with the installation by clicking "Next" on each step.

  1. Enable the Plugin in Audacity:

  • Open Audacity and go to 'Preferences'.

  • Navigate to 'Modules' and enable the new plugin from the list.

Using the AI Plugin

Once installed, using the plugin is straightforward:

  1. Load Your Audio Clip: Import your desired audio clip into Audacity.

  2. Enable the Plugin: Go to 'Effects' and select the AI plugin for music separation.

  3. Separate Tracks: The plugin will split the track into different components – drums, bass, other instrumentals, and vocals.

  4. Edit with Precision: You can now manipulate each component individually. For instance, mute the vocals to get a clean instrumental track or remove specific words seamlessly.

Practical Applications

  • Creating Instrumentals: Mute the vocal track to isolate the instrumentals.

  • Editing Specific Words: Highlight and remove any part of the vocal track, allowing for precise edits without affecting the rest of the music.

This AI plugin for Audacity is so cool! I'm definitely going to be using it in my workflow to as a teacher to make it even easier to cut music together for recitals and competitions. What do you think about this plugin? Let me know in the comments!
